At Home Spa Treatments

At Home Spa Treatments

Everyone loves the lavish lifestyle of going to the spa every month and getting different needed treatments. But not all of us can afford to get the head to toe pampering we all deserve. So, I have created a list of different "At Home" services you can do on yourself straight from the mouths of the professionals!

Lets start from the bottom and work our way up!

Feet

We all could use a little more love on our feet. Especially after a hard days work. Use these "At Home" spa treatments to help relieve and soothe your worn out feet!

A Toothbrush Isn't Just For Your Teeth

Brush your toenails with a child's soft toothbrush like you would your teeth. Dirt, soap residue and oils collect on the nail and cuticle. "Brushing will help keep build-up from underneath the nail as well as help lessen pain in some cases." says our nail expert, Kim.

Cuticle Oil Isn't Just For Fingernails

Toenails sometimes need the moisture even more so than fingernails. Toes are exposed to harsh environments and the oil will help soften skin and at times help lessen ingrown pain. Don't have any cuticle oil at home. Use some olive oil! Coat the cuticle and use our third tip below to finish it off!

Hot Towel Spa Treatment

Have extra time while applying lotion? Enjoy this soothing spa moment at home! Wet a towel with warm water and place in the microwave (1/2 minute for washcloths - 1 minute for larger towels). Wrap aching feet, knees or even hands! AAAAhhhhh!!! Applying the warm towel over freshly applied lotion will help the absorption and leave your skin silky smooth. You can even add relaxing essential oils to the towel!

Body

We put our bodies through some tough stuff! Why not treat yourself to a relaxing evening at home? Follow some of these simple tips to make room for a healthier and more relaxed you!

Detox Body Soak

Our bodies especially feel abused when we are starting to or are feeling ill. This detox body soak will help your body recover from most bugs like the cold or flu.

1-2C Baking Soda
Up to 2C Epsom Salt
1TBS-1/3C  Ginger Powder or Grated Ginger

Mix all of the ingredients in your bathtub full of water as warm as you can get it! It is important to try to sit in the tub for 40 minutes (so this may be a retreat for after the kids are in bed).  The first 20 minutes are said to help pull toxins from your body and the remaining 20 minutes are for your body to absorb any minerals in the water. Feel free to mix any essential oils in with your Epsom Salt first! They will just add a bonus benefit depending on the one you pick! The following is a list of the reasons I chose the ingredients and why I believe they will work!
  • Baking Soda is said to be highly alkaline which helps rid your body from the negative affects of living in an acidic world. It also leaves your skin silky smooth!
  • Epsom Salt is high in magnesium and sulfate. Epsom Salt helps flush toxins and heavy metals from the body, ease muscle pain and help eliminate harmful substances from the body among many other things!
  • Ginger Powder is a great way to help your body release toxins. By adding the ginger into your water you are basically turning your bath tub in to a liquid sauna. The ginger will help your body to sweat out unwanted yuck that is stuck in our bodies making us feel ill. (Consult with your doctor first if you have any health issues or if you are using an anti-coagulant.)

Hands

We use our hands constantly all day! We put them through some pretty major stuff if you think about it! Why not treat your hands to relaxing goodness's!

Use My Chap-stick For What

Have you ever found your dry cuticles getting caught on your sheets at night or clothes during the day? Need some moisturizing but lotion isn't cutting it? Use your chap-stick! You heard me right! Your chap-stick has a thicker consistency and will stay on the cuticle better in order to soften up your cuticles! No more hangnails! (This would be perfect to use with a warm towel wrap mentioned above!)

Polish, Polish, Whose Got My Polish

When selecting a polish for home use, purchase the polish in a shade lighter than you would normally get. After oxygen is introduced to the bottle, the color may oxidize and turn darker! Also, if you ever break a nail and it is in the quick use super glue to hold it together until it grows out and polish over for a smooth finish!

Face

We all want beautiful airbrushed looking skin for the price of free. Unfortunately we can't have it that easily. But if you follow these simple tips at home, you can enjoy a relaxing facial at home between your regular facials.

Don't Have A Desert Face

For easy hydration at home, break off a piece of an aloe plant! (If you are allergic to aloe stay away!) Aloe is a perfect way to get a great moisturizing face mask at home. Simply break off a piece of aloe and use the gel to cover your skin. Leave on for as long as you can.
Aloe is a great moisturizer and is great for acne! It contains two hormones that provide wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties. It also helps in the aging process by improving skins natural firmness!

Spa Facial Treatment

If you have a favorite skin care mask you like to use, boost its effectiveness by using a warm wash cloth! Follow the directions from the "Hot Towel Spa Treatment" above and place the washrag on your face! You could even use the aloe mask listed above with this one! Again Essential oils would be a great idea to add to the wash cloth to breath in! (Careful not to place the oils where your eyes are!)

Hair

Can't ever get your hair to feel as soft as it does coming out of the salon? Follow these simple at home spa tips to get the same effect!

Profession Products Really Matter

Even if it is just the conditioner you are coming home with you will reap the benefits! Apply the conditioner to freshly shampooed hair and let sit! You can even put a shower cap on and sleep in it! The next morning you will wake up with super soft and silky hair! Can't afford the professional stuff? Coconut oil has plenty of benefits in its use! Simply use coconut oil instead, just make sure you have plenty of time to shampoo it out the next morning. It usually takes me two shampoos. This treatment works best if done once a month! Your stylist will thank you!

Detox Your Hair

Your hair needs a break every once in a while! Just think of all the product we put in it as well as all of the damage from the free radicals in the air and the environment we live in! Even if you can't see it, it is there!
Once a month, mix a little baking soda in your hand with your shampoo. It works best with a peppermint scrub shampoo or a clarifying shampoo. This treatment would be perfect to follow with the deep conditioning treatment listed above!

Now It's Your Turn

Let us know what you think after doing these treatments! Share your responses or suggestions! We look forward to hearing back from you!

Sports Massage

What Is a Sports Massage?

With 5K season right around the corner, what is a better way to prepare for your event than a personalized sports massage?  From your avid CrossFit adventurer to your weekend walking warrior, a sports massage is perfect for every form of athlete. A sports massage concentrates on releasing and easing your muscles from continuing repetition, stress and pressure.

Why Are They So Popular and Who Are They For?

There is a lot of buzz going around about  this specific massage targeted towards individuals with muscle stress. This massage is used to prepare the body and reduce recovery time before or after a big event. It has been known to also help with the "non-athlete" suffering from an injury, chronic pain or those suffering from limited range of motion.

What Does It Do?

The Sports Massage helps to stimulate the circulation of blood and lymph fluid and break down adhesion's, or knots that may form in the muscle(s) after over stimulation. Minor muscle or connective tissue damage may occur after over working your body or simply by doing things your body is not used to. If this occurs there is restricted or reduced blood flow which may lead to a build up of waste in the area. In order to relive this area, the blood flow or lymph fluid may need a little extra help to begin circulating and self healing.

Did you know Massage therapy was offered as a medical service all the way back to the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta?

How Often Should Someone Get a Sports Massage?

Talking to your professional massage therapist will be the best way to find a regimen that is best suited for your needs. A Sports Massage is usually recommended for pre-event, post-event, restorative and for rehabilitative situations. It is also recommended before and after a serious training schedule to reduce from tissue damage and help with the flexibility of your muscle-tendon junctions.

Here at the CopperLeaf we specialize in perfection. Call us to make your next reservation before or after your next big event!

Sea Salt Glows

Glowing radiant skin doesn't just happen, right? As a mother of four, I can honestly say NO! At least not for me! Who has time with today's hectic schedule and demands!? But, give me an hour at the spa and I will not only have beautiful glowing radiant skin, but I will be much more relaxed, healthy, and ready to tame my lions.... I mean kids.

What is a Sea Salt Glow?

A Sea Salt Glow treatment has many beneficial factors. The salt glow provides needed exfoliation while providing you with soft, hydrated, and glowing skin. The service also provides a simple and light detox all while providing a wonderful experience with its aromatherapy properties.

Exfoliation

Due to its rough nature, sea salt is considered a natural exfoliate.  As the scrub is massaged over the body, it gently and effectively, removes dry dead skin. In return, this service reveals a glowing and more beautiful radiant you!
Sea salt is packed with minerals that provides ample hydration and nourishment to the skin. Essential oils are mixed or premixed into the product being used which has MANY other benefits! The types of oils used in your scrub will vary, which will reflect different results.

Detox

According to livestrong.com, "A sea salt glow helps draw the toxins from the body and increases skin blood circulation...".  Magnesium sulfate, which is found in sea salt, can help to rid the body of toxins from the liver and adrenal glands. More can be read from the International Journal of Dermatology, about the detoxifying effects theses salts may have on the body.

Aromatherapy

Essential oil are a part of the sea salt glow mixture. Not only do they smell amazing, but they provide a sense of wholeness and wellness all around. The oils can be experienced through inhalation as well as absorbed through your skin. Each oil has it's own characteristics in what it will provide for your body. For a more in depth look at what each oil can do for you, click here YoungLiving.

I'm Ready!

Now that we know what to expect, whats stopping you!?! With the holiday season around the corner, we need to look and feel our best! Not only will you be glowing, but your nerves will be much more relaxed and ready to take in the in-laws. (Depending on how long they are staying!) Go ahead! Mark off a day on your calendar and let the scrubbing begin!

Need To Grow Your Hair But Don't Have the Time?

Before

After

Short Hair, Don't Care...

Regretting that shorter hair cut you got? Or do you possibly need a few more inches of hair for a special occasion? How about a little extra body for lifeless hair? In the last blog we covered the different ways to select a wig. This go-around I am going to share with you how to select the perfect hair extensions and why I think this is the solution to EVERYTHING! Okay, maybe not everything.... but close enough!

What are Extensions?

Extensions come in all colors, forms and lengths. You can match them to almost any kind of hair! Just like wigs, there are different varieties to select from. The ones we will be discussing are CLIP-INS! There is absolutely NO COMMITMENT! ( I think that is why I love them the most!)

Composition

Human or Synthetic? Blonde or Brown? Long or Short? These are all great questions to ask yourself before you go "hair" shopping. First, let's take a look at the differences between Human or Synthetic hair.

Human
Human hair will of course look the most natural. Human hair extensions will last longer as well. These can be colored to match your hair color perfectly and can also be styled using a blow dryer and low heat from styling tools.

Synthetic
Synthetic is a good choice but doesn't look as natural as the human hair. When purchasing synthetic extension be sure to buy as close to your hair color because the color can not be changed. When styilng, extra care needs to follow and hot tools can NOT be used! Synthetic extensions must be properly cared for in order to last for a long period of time.

Color
Extensions come in a variety of color! Be sure that when selecting what you are looking for you keep in mind the color that you will keep your hair or any changes you are thinking of making. The more you color or change your human hair extensions the more damage you are posing on the hair. Need them highlighted to match your color? Bring them to your hairstylist and have him/her do it for you! After all you want it to match what they are already doing for you!

18 Inches
 Length
Extensions come in a variety of length:
  •        18 Inches
  •        20 Inches
  •        22 Inches
  •        24 Inches
The length will depend on your preference as well as how high or low you place them in your hair. It is best to get with your stylist as well to custom cut your extensions to help them blend with your natural hair.

Now What?

Now that you have a general sense of what you are doing, you can start your search for your new length!  Whether it is to just add extra length or boost your volume, extensions are a easy, no commitment way of getting the job done. You can always come in to get a FREE custom consultation and discuss your options to insure you are getting the very best product! Call and reserve your spot today!

Wigging Out!!

Wigging out!!

Hair or No Hair, We Don't Care!

Wigs are a great option for everyone! Whether it is an every day must have, weekend outing, or you just want a quick fix, we have what you need!
Most think that wigs are for people without or thinning hair. Boy are they mistaken! We are seeing a rise in sales for people looking for a quick fix!
Imagine this: It is a lazy Saturday and you need to run to the store. Your hair is a mess from the night before. Instead of washing your hair, blow drying and styling, all you have to do is pop your wig on and save AT LEAST 30 min! Who wouldn't want that? ( And not all of us look good in caps!)
The only question left is where do you start! There are so many options!

 Where Do I Begin?

Thank goodness we have Suzanne Storey. She has come to the CopperLeaf with 10 years experience in custom making and fitting of wigs for Broadway shows such as Addams Family, Spam A Lot and Les Miserables. With her vast experience and education of wigs, Suzanne recommends 4 simple steps to choose the wig best suited for you!

Style

Why not start with the style!!
  • length
  • texture
  • hairstyle
These are going to be the three different options you will want to discuss with your stylist. Do you want to have the same style of hair as you have now or try a new look? If you're not sure about what you want, set up a consultation and just try them all on to find what look best suits you!

Color

The options are almost endless! Solid, highlighted, gray, natural, white, or red! This again is an option that you can discuss in your consultation.

Cap Options

Cap Size
This is where the professional will step in and tell you exactly what you need. In order to find the wig that best suits your head shape, Suzanne will measure the circumference of your head.  Some wigs have adjustable straps that will give up to 1/2''.

Features
There are four different methods of attaching the hair to the cap. There are different advantages and styles that each option provides.
  1. 100% Hand-Tied- Creates the most natural movement as well as being the softest and most comfortable.
  2. Monofilament- Creates a look of natural hair growth where hair is tied individually to a sheer base but not the entire cap.
  3. Lace Front- Creates a look of styling hair away from the face and should be handled with care!
  4. Basic cap- Creates the illusion of thicker more voluminous hair that is the most durable and affordable.

Structure

Last but not least in your decision making will be the structure that you would prefer. This area covers what you would want the hair to be made of.

Human Hair
  • Looks the most natural
  • Offers more styling options
  • more expensive than synthetic
  • can last over a year with routine care
Synthetic Hair
  • can look similar to human hair
  • limited styles
  • hot tools cannot be used
  • more affordable
  • little maintenance
Heat-Friendly Synthetic Hair
  •  Offers more styling options
  • colors vary
  • less durable than regular synthetic
  • requires more maintenance

Now What?

Now that we know what to expect and what to base your decisions on, your next step will be to set up your consultation! Whether you have your wig choice down to a "T" or are still indecisive, Suzanne's consultations are free in order to make sure your next.... or first wig is the best one yet! So call us today to reserve a look into what hair style you want next!

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea

What is rosacea?

Rosacea is an inflammatory disorder of the skin. Irritations such as the sun, alcohol, spicy foods or extreme changes in temperature can cause rosacea to flair up and become uncomfortable. Depending on the grade of rosacea  (there are four grades of rosacea... Grades 1-4, four being the worst and most disfiguring)  indicate how long and severe the flair ups occur.

How do I know if I have rosacea?

People react differently to rosacea. Some may be more sensitive than others. Yvette Terrie with health.usnews.com explains it in the following subtypes:
  • Subtype 1: Persistent facial redness and flushing occurs.
  • Subtype 2: Persistent redness, bumps, pimples and raised patches become visible across the nose, cheeks, chin and forehead.
  • Subtype 3: Thickening of the skin occurs, especially around the nose.
  • Subtype 4: The eyelids become swollen and inflamed. Eyes may appear bloodshot or irritated, and may present with a burning or stinging sensation.

What can be done?

Your best friend is sunscreen! Professional care and assessment can put you on the right home care protocol and assist in controlling rosacea. Grades 3 and 4 really need to be under doctor supervision. This skin disorder can progress with age or extreme environments. As mentioned above it can become disfiguring or even spread to the eyes (ocular rosacea).
Use only non-irritating and hypoallergenic cleansers, lotions, and makeup. Use a soft and gentle touch when applying anything to the affected area.

If you believe that you may have rosacea, visit with your dermatologist or local skin care professional. Early treatment can keep symptoms at bay!

How can we help you?

Change Your Water... Change Your Life

Enagic Kangen Water

Change Your Water... Change Your Life

Here at CopperLeaf, we believe in whole wellness! Why not start with the substance that makes up 50%-70% of your body? Not only will this help with wellness, but imagine if you could replace all of your household chemical cleaners with water! That's right - WATER!

First off, what is Kangen water?

If you look at their website at www.enagic.com, they will tell you it is a type of electrolyzed water with an electron potential containing sodium hydroxide produced by the anodes (plates in the machine) . In general, the pH is over 11.0.
For those that don't wear the pants of science :
Simply put, it is giving you water loaded with antioxidants and making it highly alkaline.

How does this benefit you?

  • Cancer
  • High Cholesterol
  • Athletic Joint Pain
  • Anti-Aging
  • Colon Cleanse
  • Arthritis
  • Diabetes
  • Allergies
  • Overweight
  • Osteoporosis
  • High Blood Pressure
Do any of these among this SMALL list grab your attention? We can't make the claim to completely cure or treat any of these. HOWEVER, there is a LARGE body of evidence that supports the idea that the body with the correct alkaline/acid balance is better equipped to fight off just about anything. ;) The machine produces water that is more easily absorbed than other water because the clusters are smaller. It helps clean the body while providing balance to the immune system. Kangen water also burns fat and fights against the effects of aging. Many people report that the daily use of this water also helps the digestive system.

Water, a disinfectant?

Not only is this water good to just drink, but the stronger pH is ideal for washing vegetables, meat and fish! It is also a great tenderizer! The more acidic water it produces is perfect for cleaning stove tops, cutting board, knives, and dishes, bathrooms and removing stubborn stains including grease! Strong acidic water has extraordinary disinfecting properties. As testimony to its power, 2.5pH water is used in many top Japanese hospitals to sterilize operating rooms and surgical equipment!

Beauty water does what?

The beauty water is a strong astringent that cleans and closes the pores! Beauty water will soften and tone your skin diminishing "age spots" and blemishes! Dryness, skin rashes, acne and many other problems will improve dramatically!

...In Conclusion

By simply changing your water, you will be able to bring your body closer to the pH balance that is needed for ideal health!

Come in to the spa and ask for a drinking sample of the water and test it out for yourself! We offer it to all of our guests, either by the cup full or our gallon jugs we have to purchase. I am skipping out and just buying the machine on Friday! I can't wait! No more cleaning chemicals in my home! Healthy family, Happy life! Please leave us any questions or comments you have on this amazing miracle water!
